We hope to offer all children a robust art and design curriculum covering a range of artists, styles and genres. We believe that Art stimulates imagination, creativity and inventiveness and assists in giving our pupils the skills, knowledge and concepts necessary for children to express responses to ideas and experiences. Children will access a broad subject matter and the curriculum we deliver will provide opportunities to explore culturally and ethnically diverse artists. Children need to understand that art can be made by a wide range of people in a variety of ways, and they should feel represented by the art and art forms that they are exposed to. Through our Art and Design curriculum, our children have the opportunity to:
- Find enjoyment in art and creativity
- Discover a sense of purpose and fulfilment in artistic expression
- Appreciate a wide range of artists and artwork
- Experiment with a range of media, allowing them to independently select the most appropriate media to create different effects
- Use a range of materials and techniques competently
- Develop their observation and description skills
- Express ideas and feelings through creative work and in both two and three dimensions
- Value and respect their own work and the work of others, understanding how to express opinions appropriately
